Travel to Ahmedabad

Tourists looking to experience some culture while they’re away should look no further than a holiday in Ahmedabad. With an abundance of rich history and stunning architecture you won’t be disappointed. Once home of the great Mahatma Gandhi, Gandhi Aashram is without a doubt a must-see – it was here that he began his ‘Dandi March’. Also worth a visit is the Sidi Sayed Mosque to admire the beautifully craved stone latticework, and another great place to visit is the incredible sandstone structure, Juma Masjid, which dates right back to 1423.

You’re unable to purchase any direct flights to Ahmedabad so you’ll have to be prepared to stop over for a few hours if you decide to take a holiday to this incredible location. But the good news is that you’ll have a wide choice of UK airports to choose from so it doesn’t really matter where you’re based in the country! Air India, British Airways. Qatar Airways and Air France are among the airlines that offer indirect flights into the city. You’ll land at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport which is situated around eight kilometres from Ahmedabad railway station.

You’ll have two options to help you get to your final destination once you land in Ahmedabad. If you fancy traditional Indian travel then hire a rickshaw – there’s a pre-paid booth located at the airport that can help make the experience hassle-free. Alternatively you can take a taxi, once again, these can be found at the pre-paid booth, and are a great way to start your Ahmedabad holiday as smoothly as possible.

One great thing about visiting this destination is the abundance of cheap hotels in Ahmedabad and thankfully Ahmedabad is no different. You’ll be able to choose from luxury five star resorts or traditional guesthouses. If you want to book a cheap hotel in Ahmedabad then the trick is to do so well in advance – you’ll be amazed at what bargains you’ll find.

The city of Ahmedabad is well known for its textiles industry and you’ll be able to pick up some beautiful items. Be prepared to haggle with the vendor, although only try this if you’re buying from roadside shops. If you put your mind to it you’ll be able to come back from your Ahmedabad holiday with some great bargains – for yourself as well as presents for friends and family! Keep a look out for traditional hand embroidered clothes.
