Aer Lingus Airline Guide

Aer Lingus is based in Dublin and is the national airline of Ireland. It flies short-haul routes across Ireland, Europe and the UK and long-haul to the US and Dubai. It has started to focus on low-cost flights.

Check-in

Airport check-in desks close 45 minutes before departure however Aer Lingus recommends that you arrive three-and-a-half hours before flights that arrive or depart outside Europe, or two-and-a-half hours for UK and European flights. Online check-in is available for most flights between 30 hours and two hours before departure.

Luggage restrictions and security

Hand luggage: each passenger over two-years-old can take on one piece of hand luggage measuring no more than 56cm x 45cm x 25cm and weighing no more than 6kg. One small item such as a coat or handbag is also allowed.

Checked: In Economy you will need to pay for each piece of checked luggage which can weigh up to 20kg. The fee is cheapest when booked online rather than at the airport. With Flexible fares you can check two bags up to 20kg each for free.

Families, elderly and disabled

In some cases children will only have to pay 90 per cent of the adult fare. However unaccompanied children will have to pay the full fare.

There is a seat pitch of 32".

In-flight food and entertainment

On short-haul flights you can purchase snacks and drinks, while on long-haul flights meals and non-alcoholic drinks are complimentary. On long-haul flights you will be able to watch feature films and you get a personal headset.

Pets, sports gear and musical instruments

All pets must travel as cargo and can only travel on specific days. You will need to complete a lot of documentation and older animals may not be accepted. Musical instruments can be taken as hand luggage if they are small enough, but otherwise you will have to book an extra seat.

Alliances and air miles

Aer Lingus is no longer a member of the oneworld alliance. It does however offer passengers the chance to earn Gold Circle club points.
