Air France Airline Guide

Air France is the national carrier in France and is linked with KLM, together they are the world's third largest airline. Air France calls Paris home, but also has bases in Lyon and Nice. Flights with Air France will take you to destinations as diverse as Africa and Asia to Europe and the Americas.

Check-in

Check-in procedures vary between airports, but in general you will need to have checked in 30 minutes before departure for European flights and 60 minutes before flights to and from the US. It pays to check before you fly though. Online check-in is available on most flights from 30 hours before departure. You can also check in through your mobile if you have access to the internet.

Luggage restrictions and security

Hand luggage: you can take one personal item such as a blanket or handbag and one item which weighs up to 12kg and measures no more than 55cm x 35cm x 25cm.

Checked: You can take two pieces of luggage free of charge with dimensions up to 400cm (L+W+D). For US flights each piece can weigh up to 23kg and for European flights they can weigh up to 20kg.

Families, elderly and disabled

Infants under the age of two can travel for free as long as they are sitting on an adult's lap. Children up until the age of 11 can take advantage of Planete Bleue which gives them discounted flights and specialised entertainment, meals and booster seats and cots where appropriate. Children can travel unaccompanied from the age of four on European flights and from the age of five for international flights. Air France offers Saphir, which is a service for passengers with reduced mobility or special needs. Most services are free of charge, but if you apply for a Saphir card you will get extra benefits.

Selecting a seat

Seats have a pitch of up to 32''. You will be able to seat a seat when you check in.

In-flight food and entertainment

You will get complimentary meals, snacks and alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks on all flights. On long-haul flights you will be offered an aperitif and for flights over ten-and-a-half hours a self-service buffet will be available throughout the entire flight. On long-haul flights you will have a personal screen and access to movies, music, television shows and games.

Pets, sports gear and musical instruments

Cats and dogs weighing less than 4kg and guide dogs can travel in the cabin. Cats and dogs weighing between 4kg and 75kg can travel in the hold. All other animals will need to travel as cargo. Small musical instruments can be carried as hand luggage and larger ones will need to have a booked seat.

Alliances and air miles

You can collect air miles through Flying Blue from Air France and KLM. Air France is also a member of the Sky Team alliance.
