Air France is the national carrier in France and is part of the Air France-KLM Group, one of the world's largest airlines. Air France calls Paris home, but also has bases in Lyon and Nice. Check-in procedures vary between airports, but in general you will need to have checked in 40 minutes before departure for European flights and 60 minutes before flights to and from the US. It pays to check before you fly though. Online check-in is available on most flights from 30 hours before departure. You can also check in through your mobile if you have access to the internet.
Hand luggage: you can take one standard baggage item that measures no more than 55cm x 35cm x 25cm, as well as an additional item such as a handbag or laptop. Both items together must weigh no more than 12kg.
Checked: With a Classic Economy fare within Europe you can take one piece of luggage free of charge weighing up to 23kg with dimensions up to 158cm/62'' (L+W+D), while with Mini Economy fares, you must pay a fee for each piece of checked baggage. For US flights, all passengers can take one piece of checked baggage of up to 23kg at no charge.
Infants under the age of two can travel for free within France and receive a discount on international flights as long as they are sitting on an adult's lap. Children up to the age of 11 can take advantage of discounted flights (up to 33% on medium- and long-haul flights) and specialised entertainment, meals and booster seats and cots where appropriate. Children can travel unaccompanied from the age of four on flights within France and French territories, and from the age of five for international flights.
Air France offers Saphir, which is a service for passengers with reduced mobility or special needs. Most services are free of charge, and if you apply for a free Saphir card, you'll have the added benefits of discretion and not having to describe your disability every time you travel with Air France.
Seats have a pitch of up to 32'', and you will be able to select a seat when you check in online (except with Mini fares, where seats can only be selected during airport check-in). You can select an extra-legroom seat on long-haul flights at an additional charge, with Seat Plus. You can do this when purchasing your ticket or when checking in.
You will receive complimentary meals, snacks and alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks on all flights. On long-haul flights you will be offered an aperitif, two hot meals and a self-service buffet will also be available throughout the entire flight. You'll also be provided with a personal screen and access to movies, music, television shows and games on long-haul flights.
Cats and dogs weighing less than 6kg (including their travel container) and guide dogs can travel in the cabin. Cats and dogs weighing between 6kg and 75kg can travel in the hold. All other animals will need to travel as cargo. Golf equipment is considered to be a standard baggage item and is included in your baggage allowance. It's best to confirm other sports gear by phone with the Air France sales team. Small musical instruments can be carried as hand luggage and larger ones will need to have a booked seat.
