Emirates Airline Guide

Emirates is owned by the government of Dubai and offers flights across the world including the Middle East, Far East, Asia-Pacific and Africa. It's based at Dubai International Airport and the company also owns luxury hotels so you may be able to get a great package holiday.

Check-in

Online check-in is open between 24 and two hours before departure. At the airport, check-in desks close 90mins before departure or 60mins if you only have cabin baggage.

Luggage restrictions and security

Hand luggage: Economy class passengers can take one piece of cabin luggage weighing no more than 7kg (15lb) and measuring no more than 55c x 38 cm x 20 cm (22" x 15" x 8"). Passengers travelling with infants can take one extra bag.

Checked: for most flights Economy class passengers can check-in up to 20kg, but this increases to 23kg for flights to and from the US and 32kg to and from Brazil. Excess baggage rates apply and Silver and Gold Skywards members have an extra allowance.

Families, elderly and disabled

Children between aged over five and under 12 years can make use of the Unaccompanied Minors service as long as they are paying a full adult fare. Let Emirates know ahead of time if you are travelling with infants and you will be able to take advantage of priority boarding, special meals and bassinets. Changing facilities and strollers may also be available. Children may be able to get a discounted fare but there are no discounts for seniors.

Selecting a seat

You can select your seat when you check-in in person or online on a first come first served basis. Economy seats have a pitch of 32" - 33".

In-flight food and entertainment

Emirates has a fantastic in-flight entertainment programme. You can get live updates from BBC News; phone, SMS or email friends across the globe; and you'll have over 600 channels at your fingertips including movies, television, audio and games. They offer high quality meals and wines and have three in-flight magazines.

Pets, sports gear and musical instruments

Pets can travel in the hold if booked in advance. Musical instruments can be taken in the hold, in the overhead lockers or in a spare seat as organised with the airline.

Alliances and air miles

You can collect Skywards points on Emirates; these are also available with Sri Lankan Airlines. It has no airline alliances.
