Lufthansa Airline Guide

Lufthansa is based in Cologne, Germany with bases in Frankfurt, Munich and Dusseldorf. It flies domestic and international routes between almost 200 destinations, but as a founding member of Star Alliance it can offer flights to just about anywhere.

Check-in

Check-in varies between airports but is generally open between 90 and 120 minutes before departure. You can also check in online, through WAP and SMS (at 12 German airports), and quick check-in machines.

Luggage restrictions and security

Hand luggage: you can take one piece with maximum dimensions of 55 x 40 x 20 cm, up to 8kg.

Checked: in Europe there is no maximum number of bags, but a maximum weight allowance of 23kg. Infants have a 10kg bag allowance.

Families, elderly and disabled

There are discounted fares for children and infants. Children aged between five and 12 can travel solo if they use the supervision service. Older children can use it on request. If you are travelling with children you can take strollers up to the door, take advantage of early boarding and in-flight assistance. Let Lufthansa know in advance if you will be travelling with an assistance dog, require a wheelchair or need any other assistance.

Selecting a seat

Economy seats have a 32" pitch. On inter-continental flights you are able to pre-reserve seats up to 24 hours in advance.

In-flight food and entertainment

Economy passengers can watch 10 of the latest film releases in a wide choice of languages. There is also a variety of TV programmes, 30 radio channels and a special kid's programme. These can all be accessed through your personal TV screen. You will also be served meals and beverages.

Pets, sports gear and musical instruments

Pets can be transported with prior arrangement and payment of a fee. Dogs and cats are allowed in the cabin if the cage is under the maximum size but all other animals will travel in the hold. Sports and musical equipment is subject to the standard baggage restrictions and instruments may be able to take a spare seat.

Alliances and air miles

Lufthansa is a founding member of Star Alliance, the world's largest airline network, which includes Air Canada, Scandinavian Airlines, Thai Airways and United Airlines. You can collect Miles and More frequent flyer points.
