Check-in

Check-in desks close 40mins before departure, although for long-haul flights it closes one hour before. To check in you need your booking reference and your passport or a valid EU national identity card.

Online check-in is only available on outbound scheduled flights from Luton, Gatwick, Manchester and Birmingham airports. It's not available for Monarch charter flights (flight number MON). Online check-in opens seven days before departure and closes four-and-a-half hours before take-off.

Luggage restrictions and security

Hand luggage: you are allowed one piece that doesn't exceed 10kg with total dimensions of 56cm x 45cm x 25cm. Smaller pieces such as handbags must be carried within this.

Checked luggage: there is a charge for checking in luggage, which is currently between £7 and £9 per piece one way. You can pay this online when you book or after you have booked, it can also be paid at the airport but it will cost significantly more. Baggage fees don't apply for charter flights (flight number MON). No matter how many bags you take the maximum weight is 20kg. There is a fee for excess weight but no bag can weigh more than 32kg.

Families, elderly and disabled

There is no discount for children but there will be a reduced fare for infants sitting on an adults lap. Disabled passengers need to inform Monarch at least 48 hours before departure. They will be able to offer you a wheelchair and early boarding as well as in-flight assistance.

Selecting a seat

Economy seats on Monarch Airlines have a seat pitch of 29", but seats with extra legroom can be reserved for about £20 one way. Seats on scheduled flights can be reserved for about £6, otherwise you will have to try your luck. Club members get free allocated seating and extra legroom - so join up!

In-flight food and entertainment

As Monarch is a low-cost airline there is limited onboard entertainment and food and drinks incur an extra fee on scheduled flights, although they are complimentary on charter flights. You will also get the in-flight magazine UP.
