Albufeira
Travel to Albufeira
The nearest airport to Albufeira is in Faro, which is just under 30 miles from the resort. Plenty of budget airlines offer routes to Faro meaning that with a little searching you'll be sure to get a great deal, particularly if you can be flexible on dates. Of the London airports, Luton tends to offer the best prices, with Manchester, Cardiff and Glasgow also offering low prices so you won't have to travel too far within the UK before you can get your holiday to Albufeira underway.
Faro Airport
On arrival in Albufeira
The cheapest way to get to the resort from the airport is by public transport, but this is also the most difficult and longest way. The trip needs to be done in two stages, with a bus into Faro followed by another to Albufeira. The direct service may seem like the best option here, but the local service stops at a variety of places within the main eastern hotel area rather than going direct to the bus station. Shuttle buses and private hire buses from the airport are slightly more expensive but offer a more relaxing way to get to your accommodation. If you want to see a little of Faro on your way through you can also get the train direct from Faro to Albufeira. Car hire is also available if you want to make the journey under your own steam.
Getting around Albufeira
Depending on where your hotel is, you may be able to explore Albufeira predominantly on foot. However, there are other options too, with a good bus network offering several routes across the town and the resort, plus the "Tourist Train", a land train that stops along the promenade as well as on the Strip. Taxis are also available, although late night trips do carry a fairly hefty surcharge.
Travelling further afield
To explore more of the Algarve coast you can choose from the local train line, running between Faro and Lagos, or the regional buses which offer destinations to all the local beaches as well as Algoz, Portimao, Silves and beyond to Lisbon or Seville. Hiring a car will allow you to explore more of the coast in your own time, as well as heading into the Monchique Mountains to see the quaint villages and forgotten monasteries.
