Summers in Albufeira offer perfect holiday weather, with rainy weather pretty much confined to the winter months. Maximum summer temperatures reach close to 30°C at the height of the season, with average daily highs of around 25°C. The weather inland at this time of year can get very sticky and hot, but the coast is cooled by sea breezes, although you may still want to seek out some shade around the middle of the day. Winter temperatures are also very agreeable, with average daily highs of about 15°C, and night time temperatures dropping just below 10°C.

Summer brings an influx of visitors hoping to enjoy the sun, sea and nightlife, and is a popular destination for package and all inclusive holidays. Although there are 23 kilometres of beaches, the main ones can get very crowded at this time of year, so looking for a hotel with a pool can help to give you somewhere to relax. With this being such a popular destination, make sure you book in advance to get the best deals in the prime locations. But Albufeira isn't just for the summer, spring and autumn are still warm enough to combine a little sunbathing and swimming with sightseeing, whilst visiting in winter will allow you to make the most of the historical side of the area.

Events in Albufeira

Whilst many would say that the only event worth knowing about is the summer-long party on the Strip, there are plenty of other reasons to head off on an Albufeira holiday. If you want to honour the town's patron saint, Nossa Senhora da Ourda, the August is the time for you, with the Festa da Ourada in aid of fishermen. For more sedate entertainment, the Albufeira Jazz Festival takes place in September, with events across the town. Also in September is the Alcoutim Festival which showcases the games, entertainment and sports that are traditional in the Algarve. Carnival is also a huge event here, as it is across the region, with floats, costumes, dancing and street parties across the resort on Pancake Day in February. And if you're after romance, what could be better than the Balloons Meeting, when Fisherman's Beach is the setting for watching hot air balloons take to the sky at night.
