Travel to Amsterdam

There are over thirty airports across the UK that offer flights to Amsterdam and for most people this will be the fastest and easiest way of getting there. If you're looking to save money checking flights to Rotterdam and Eindhoven are other options, and access to Amsterdam is excellent on public transport. As an alternative to flying, there is a ferry from Hull to Rotterdam, which is only an hour's drive from Amsterdam, as well as a ferry that runs direct from Newcastle to Amsterdam.

Getting around Amsterdam

Amsterdam is a very compact city and most of the main attractions are within easy walking distance. Travelling by bike is very popular with the locals and it's possible to hire a bike to and join in, with plenty of dedicated cycle lanes to keep you safe. The tram network is excellent, serving all of the centre with frequent and cheap travel. Local buses are also available and reduced service run throughout the night to get you back to your accommodation safely. A short metro line exists and a stop-go bus service allows users to hop on and off all along the route that runs around the edge of the canal ring. For a more relaxed way to see the sights, why not go on a canal cruise?

Travelling further afield

The best way to travel around Holland and beyond is on the trains. Tickets can be bought online in advance which will allow you to get the best price. Trains go to all major destinations and quite a lot of smaller destinations too, just watch out for those offering multiple destinations as at some point they will split with the two halves going in different directions! Roads in Holland are good so if you're planning on travelling further afield from Amsterdam car hire is also a good option.
