Barbados
Hot SpotsBridge Town and the West Coast
The land on the west coast of Barbados is known as the Platinum Coast for its low lying land allowing for natural bays and flat sandy beaches that line the warm, crystal clear Caribbean Sea. This side of Barbados is a haven for tourists, package tour operators and higher end five-star beachfront hotels. The island's capital Bridge Town is situated on the West Coast.
South Coast
Unspoilt long sandy beaches and world class reefs, the south coast has it all; swimming, snorkelling, reefs, kite surfing, wind surfing, not to mention a wide selection of lively bars and restaurants. The town of Harrismith offers value for money self catering accommodation options. Further along the south-east coast is Crane Beach; recognised as one of the best beaches in the world.
East Coast
The dramatic eastern shoreline of rugged cliffs and wide rocky beaches has been carved out by trade winds and the powerful Atlantic Ocean. This part of Barbados, housing the parishes of St Joseph, St John and St Philip is more isolated and less touristy compared to the west . Swimming is not advised and you'll need a car to get to the beaches. However you shouldn't let that put you off - it is beautiful and worth visiting, particularly Bathsheba, the island's most famous surfing spot.
North Coast
The Atlantic meets the Caribbean at the northern tip of Barbados. This part of the island is quieter and less popular with tourists.
