Birmingham Airport Guide (BHX)

40 airlines operate domestic and international flights out of Birmingham.

Terminals

Birmingham airport has two terminals which are linked via a walkway. Terminal 1 is the main terminal while Terminal 2 has the honour of being the first terminal in the world to combine international and domestic flights.

Getting there

Birmingham airport is 13km from Birmingham city centre. You can get there by car or on the SkyRail which departs from the Central Train Station.

Shopping and Dining

Both terminals have a range of high street and duty free stores such as WH Smith, Boots and Dixons. The larger Terminal 1 has a wider range of shopping options than Terminal 2. Both terminals have laid back cafes, bars and restaurants including some of your most well-known names such as Costa and Wetherspoons.

Services

Pay-as-you-go internet booths. Seven bureau de change desks. Baggage storage on the first floor next to Boots. Games centre. International Rail station and the NEC.

Lounges and business facilities

The departure lounges in Terminal 1 have Business Booths with phones, faxes and internet access. It also has two Executive Lounges which offer complimentary drinks and snacks, TV and newspapers. The lounges are available to anyone over 12 years old for a fee. There are meeting rooms which accommodate up to 40 people.

Car parking and car hire

Short stay car parking is directly outside the terminals and is recommended for stays under two hours. Then there are multi-story car parking buildings which suit stays for up to a week. Long stay car parking is accessible via a courtesy bus which runs 24 hours a day. Birmingham airport recommends pre-booking long-stay car parks. A valet parking service is also available and if you stay a night pre-flight in a hotel you may be able to get car parking included.

You can pick up a car from Avis, Budget, Europcar, Enterprise, Hertz or National. You can book at the airport but you?ll get the best deal by pre booking using a car hire search engine.

Airport Hotels

The Novotel is opposite Terminal 1 and you can get to central Birmingham via SkyRail. There are also other hotel, B&B and budget options near Birmingham airport.
