Playa Blanca, Lanzarote

Son of Groucho

This resort in south Lanzarote offers a relaxed setting for a holiday. Expect plenty of beachside cafes along the promenade, a charming marina, long stretches of sand and a quiet nightlife. Playa Blanca is perhaps the best resort in the Canary Islands for family holidays.

G.e.o.r.g.e

What was once two separate resorts is now more-or-less one mega resort, with Los Cristianos offering a quieter time of the two. Known for the huge beaches, oversized hotels and exciting nightlife Los Cristianos – Playa de las Americas is popular with the party crowd.

Puerto de la Cruz, Tenerife

narujen

Possibly the prettiest resort in Tenerife, Puerto de la Cruz is located in the north of the island, meaning it’s cloudier here than further south. Lush scenery, a palm-dotted main square and a beachfront lido have meant that the traditional older crowd are starting to feel competition from families!

Los Gigantes, Tenerife

Tom Tolkien

Famous for the Acantilados de Los Gigantes, the giant rock formations that give the town its name, the resort of Los Gigantes is small, tranquil and pretty. Spend time on the public beach, people watching at the marina and strolling the Avenida Maritima. A trip to the Archipenque Mirador viewing point is a must!

Costa Teguise, Lanzarote

Best known for its windsurfing, Costa Teguise is also home to several annual music festivals too. A purpose-built tourist resort, it’s got four natural beaches and a great mix of nightlife based around British pubs and Spanish tapas restaurants.

Puerto de Mogan, Gran Canaria

bortecristian

Nicknamed the Venice of the Canaries thanks to its canals reaching inland from the fishing harbour, Puerto Mogan is a pretty fishing town with heaps of charm, although it’s not very lively in the evenings. There is a large beach and daytime activities include scuba diving, parascending and dolphin spotting.

Las Palmas, Gran Canaria

CanariasNature

The capital of Gran Canaria boasts plenty of historical attractions as well as several large beaches, great for anyone who wants a mix of sightseeing and sunbathing. Look for Lucha Canaria (Canarian wrestling) and Vela Latina (Canarian sailing boats) at the weekends to see traditional pastimes in Las Palmas!

Corralejo, Fuerteventura

disr@vorderstrasse.de

The largest resort on Fuerteventura, expect a fairly lively nightlife and plenty of beach space, thanks to the Corralejo dunes which stretch for seven miles! The sea here is a little rough though, so stick to the beaches in Corralejo itself for more tranquil waters.

Caleta de Fuste, Fuerteventura

Inaki Queralt

In Caleta de Fuste you will find a large shallow beach great for families, with plenty of activities to keep everyone happy, from scuba and windsurfing to golf and turtle watching. There’s a busy restaurant and bar scene but don’t expect late night partying!

Costa Calma, Fuerteventura

lostajy

Boasting some of the best beaches in the Canary Islands, Costa Calma is based around a fishing village and is most definitely all about the spacious white sand. With green spaces too this is a great destination if you just want to get away from it all in the sunshine.
