America is as diverse as it is vast and its beaches are no different – there are the tropical beaches of Hawaii, the celebrity adorned beaches of Miami and the city beaches of Boston and Chicago to inspire a traveller. It’s been tough to narrow it down but we’ve rounded up 10 of the finest American beaches so that you don’t have to!

1. South Beach

Famed for its art deco buildings and long swathes of golden sand, South Beach in Miami is the place to be seen. Celebrities such as Kanye West, Gisele Bündchen and Drake have all been spotted holidaying here and a getaway to South Beach will make you feel like an A-lister. There are a number of chic bars and restaurants lining the promenade by the beach, meaning that you never need stray far.

2. Kailua Beach Park

Trying to find the best beach in Hawaii is no easy feat, but the Kailua Beach Park is a sure contender. It offers visitor’s two and a half miles of uninterrupted white powdery sands and turquoise waters to frolic upon. The waters here are lively enough for watersports but not too rough for beginners, making it a great spot for kayaking and boogie boarding. If none of this is awe-inspiring enough yet, the green sea turtles that often swim by sure will be.

3. Higgs Beach

Higgs Beach in Key West, Florida is how you imagine a dream beach to be – it has palm trees gently swaying in the wind, clear cool water and soft white sands. For those who find the thought of lazing on a beach a little testing there are a number of activities on offer here. From tennis courts to volleyball and paddle boarding rentals there is more than enough to keep your hearts racing and your bodies beach beautiful.

4. North Avenue Beach

Didn’t know that Chicago has beaches? Well, you do now. North Avenue Beach on the banks of Lake Michigan has some of the finest views of the city and offers a great picnic spot for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of Chicago for an afternoon. With the famed Art Institute of Chicago, the Lincoln Park Conservatory and the DuSable Museum of African American History we weren’t sure that we could love the Windy City any more, but we certainly do now.

5. East Hampton Main Beach

In the hot months New York becomes quieter, there is space to picnic in Central Park and it is almost possible to hail a cab. For those wondering where did all the people go? Every year hundreds of city-dwellers flock to the Hamptons to get their dose of sun and sand. Last year, the luxury shopping site Net-A-Porter offered a same day delivery service there revealing just how glam the summer parties are. So pack your glad rags and join New York’s elite.

6. Surfside Beach

It’s not only California and Florida that offer gorgeous beaches – Texas has some which offer serious competition too! Surfside Beach just outside of Houston has a vast stretch of white sand for revellers to lay down a towel upon. If natural wonders are more your thing, this is a great spot to see dolphins in, and there are a number of companies offering dolphin watching tours nearby.

7. Coronado Central Beach

San Diego is famed for its warm weather and incredible food scene but these aren’t the only reasons to visit. It’s got a pretty sweet beach scene too – one that is a dream for more active-types. The beaches at Trestles and Swami’s are great for surfing but the gentle waves of Coronado’s Central Beach make it a great spot for America’s latest sporting trend: stand-up paddle boarding.

The famous outdoor gym, Muscle Beach, is based on Venice Beach in Los Angeles, California and has helped to forge some of America’s most well-known bodies. Arnold Schwarzenegger trained here during his body building years! If you want to make like Arnie and lift some heavy weights, a day pass costs only $10. If however, you’re looking to ogle those beautiful beach bodies from the comfort of your beach towel, the palm tree lined sands of Venice Beach are a great spot for people watching.

The white sands and turquoise waters of Clearwater Beach are just a short drive away from Tampa in Florida. With highs of 25°C even in December, this sunny spot is popular with holiday makers all year round. As a result, this destination is set up for vacations, and has plenty of activities on offer to keep you from ever getting bored. Take part in a Segway tour alongside the beach, go searching for dolphins on a boat trip or take part in some water sports for an unforgettable holiday.

The lucky inhabitants of Boston can take the metro out to this sandy beach in no time at all. Carson Beach and the M-Street Beach inhabit three miles of sandy shores, giving Bostonians a relaxing spot to while away their weekends in. All these cities with beaches are making us at dealchecker green with envy! When your brain is all worked out by the historical treats that Boston has to offer, head to the shoreline to exhaust your body too with a spot of kayaking.
