Travel to Burlington (Vermont)

Located on Lake Champlain in the state of Vermont, Burlington breaks are perfect for those looking for a laid back getaway with a real bohemian feel. Brimming with culture, you'll find plenty of museums and galleries to explore and parks to relax in. Head to Church Street to see the vibrant street performers and bustling market or spend the day exploring the waterfront area with its pretty promenades and views of the lake. North Beach park is the perfect place to take a dip in the water and has a BBQ and picnic areas.

While you can't get direct flights to the city, there are a number of airlines which fly indirectly to Burlington from the United Kingdom. KLM, bmi, Delta, Virgin Atlantic and US Airways are among those offering indirect flights and you can depart from a range of airports across the UK including London Heathrow, Manchester, Glasgow International and Belfast City. You'll land at Burlington International Airport which is just six kilometres from the city itself.

Taxis are an efficient way to get to your Burlington hotel from the airport and there are plenty available outside the arrivals hall. Expect to pay around $20 for the 15 minute journey into town. A cheaper option is to catch the local bus which leaves the airport every 20 minutes or so for the central bus station in the city. Another convenient option is to consider car rental in Burlington. It's advisable to book hire cars in advanced and they can be collected from the airport upon arrival.

If you do decide to hire a car during your holiday in Burlington it'll allow you the freedom to explore the city and its surrounding areas at your own pace and is handy given there's not much public transport in the city. If you don't, you can walk around most parts of the downtown area with ease and make use of taxis or the limited local bus service.

The city plays host to a number of very popular festivals throughout the year so if you are planning a holiday in Burlington it's a good idea to make sure you book your accommodation up as far in advance as possible. Hotels prices in Burlington can rise during certain festivals, so if you're on a budget you may want to avoid these peak periods. Have a good scout around online to find accommodation to suit your needs.

When it comes to food, you'll find every sport of cuisine in the city from American burgers to Italian to Thai. Church Street Market is the perfect place to pick up fresh local fare at affordable places. Why not pack a picnic and head to North Beach or to the Waterfront?
