Transport in

Canada

Travel to Canada

The international airports of Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Calgary, Vancouver, Halifax and Edmonton are serviced by direct flights from airports across the UK. Canada has further international airports in Winnipeg, Regina, Saskatoon, Kelowna and Victoria, though you're likely to need a connecting flight if you're flying from the UK.

Getting around Canada

In a country as vast as Canada, it's hard to generalise about transport options. If you intend to see a broad sweep of the country, it's worth considering taking some flights as land transport will take simply too long. Air Canada services most major cities whilst West Jet provides a no frills, budget alternative on some routes.

Roads in Canada are good, driving is easy and the scenery is spectacular, all of which makes car hire a tempting option. There is an extensive coach network across the country with Greyhound, Coach Canada and Orleans Express serving as the main operators. There are a few train services which provide much greater comfort than coaches but are also much more expensive. Of particular note is the Toronto to Vancouver train which cuts through some stunning prairie and Rockies scenery.

Travelling further afield

There are coach and train services from Toronto and Montreal to New York as well as from Vancouver to Seattle. There are also ferry services from Vancouver to Washington state and Alaska.
