The Canaries
The Canaries Weather
Although there are some regional variations between the islands, the Canary Island weather is ideal for holidays all year round. Winter averages just under 20°C and summer averages nearing 30°C mean it's easy to choose when you want to go by how hot you like it. Rain can be slightly more prevalent in the winter months but the five major islands receive very little rainfall. If you're determined to avoid the rain then the south of Gran Canaria is generally drier than the north, and the westernmost islands are generally cloudier than the rest.
The Canaries' Tourist Season
The Canaries have two major peak times, at the height of summer when people are looking for guaranteed sun, and mid-winter when the rest of Europe shivers and sunseekers head south to thaw out. Great deals can be had in spring and autumn which are traditionally less popular times although the excellent climate means you can be sunbathing any time you go.
Events in The Canaries
People in the Canary Islands love to party, so look out for numerous local festivals throughout the year if you fancy joining in. Carnival is probably the biggest party time and villages and towns will put on their own events in February and March. The Canaries Jazz Festival happens in July, bringing top music acts, whilst WOMAD's World of Music and Dance festival in November is a free musical event. The party rarely stops in many of the Canary Island holiday resorts so if you want to dance your holiday away you can do so at any time of the year.
