London is one of the world's greatest cities, merging tradition and culture with a thriving art, theatre and music scene and pumping nightlife. For a big city, it also boasts a large number of attractive parks to relax in. London's public transport system is well developed so there's no need to hire a car to explore the central city. However if you want to get a little out of the centre a car is invaluable. Cars are available across the city and from all major airports in London. Car rental is perfect for families as train fares can get very expensive and it's useful if you want to save money by staying a little out of town. Oh and they drive on the left!
As a tourist it's best to avoid driving in the centre of London, not only can parking be difficult, you could also be faced with a congestion charge during peak times. Instead use it to get further afield, by discovering places like Stonehenge, Cambridge, Oxford and Brighton. Or you could visit some of the beautiful stately homes, palaces and cathedrals such as Windsor Castle.
Of course if you want to visit the central tourist hotspots you can always leave the car for a day and venture out on foot. London has something for everyone whether you fancy early morning strolls past some of the world's most beautiful landmarks and across the bridges over the Thames, or if you'll be watching the sun rise on your way home from London's many bars and clubs.
