Plaza de Lavapies
posted by lhooker We were staying in the Lavapies area and this square was our local evening nightspot. Wonderful vibe but occasionally a bit scary late at night! Teleferico
posted by klaurenzi What a journey! It's the world's most horizontal cable car and you're never very far from the ground, so the views of the parkland and over Madrid are good but not spectacular, but getting out and up is wonderful. Faro de Moncloa
posted by rloewentsein A radio tower isn't the most glamorous building you could hope to visit but the views from nearly 100m up are pretty spectacular. You can see as far as the countryside around the city and there are even floor markings to tell you what to look for (a little hard to read). Puerta del Sol
posted by bwegley If you want to find the young people and be where the action is in the evenings then head here. Unfortunately our hotel was right by here and we're no longer young, but it's still a great spot for visitig Old Madrid too. Royal Palace
posted by kholts Insider tip: free on Wednesdays so get there early! Great art collection, and the rooms are so stunning, particularly the throne room. Gardens are great too and you can get into these for free any time. |
Although it lacks the iconic monuments of other European capitals, cheap holidays to Madrid will give you an experience of Spanish living and culture like no other. The place is undeniably beautiful and makes everyone welcome, from partygoers to art fans. There are many cheap Madrid car hire firms within the city, although for convenient car hire Madrid Airport is perhaps the best place to start. The cheap Madrid hotels can be reached by road, although traffic can hinder your progress in peak periods so plan accordingly. The number one hotspot for visitors to Madrid is the Plaza Mayor, the epicentre of the Spanish capital. The market at El Rastro is another highlight, taking place on a Sunday morning and offering some authentic local retail that will not send your cash straight into the coffers of big name brands. There are many museums but the Museo del Prado is one of the best, so those wanting high culture need not go unnourished. Seek out the nightlife in its clubs and bars which stay open all hours or use car rental to explore some of the diverse neigbourhoods.Hiring A Car At Madrid Airport
