National Air and Space Museum
posted by vwilkerson This is heaven! I can't believe I touched the MOON! There is a bit here (not at all like cheese) along with some amazing historic flying machines like the Wright brothers' original plane! National Harbor
posted by fdryfus Whilst I do take umbrage at them just slapping the word national on everything, we had several lovely evenings down at the harbour enjoying good food and pondering taking a boat cruise after long days at a conference. We never did quite get round to it though... Great Falls Park
posted by pbeach Great park! Amazing views of the falls-rapids of the Pontomac river and we had a lovely day out in the fresh air before back to the sightseeing schedule the next day! National Cathedral
posted by jhooker It caught my eye as an anomaly on the landscape, with its European stylings it stood out and called to me. It's totally stunning and you can't miss the views from the Pilgrim's Gallery. United States Botanical Garden
posted by kmary A lovely section of the National Mall, I love to see the native flowers when i'm on holiday, so the National Garden was understandably a highlight, with the First Ladies Water Garden lovely too. |
If culture, history and retail therapy are what you're looking for, then Washington DC holidays have it all. Here you will find the White House, the Washington Monument and plenty of other historic venues and sights. There are over 70 shops at the 'Shops at Georgetown Park' Mall, including Victoria's Secrets and Abercrombie & Finch. You can either take advantage of the car hire Washington DC Airport offers, or when you have arrived at one of the many hotels in Washington DC, you can then go in search of cheap Washington DC car hire. Whichever you prefer, there are plenty of good deals around just waiting for you. Once you have your Washington DC rental vehicle, getting around will be so much easier as not even the capital is exempt from the US attitude that the car is king. Once you have secured Washington DC car hire, you can then visit the National Mall. This is home to a huge variety of historic monuments such as the Lincoln Memorial, or the US Capitol. You can also take advantage of the museums in this area with the Smithsonian Institution offering no fewer than 17 museums all with free entry. If you would like to visit the White House, you will need to submit your request to Congress in advance in order to get tickets.Hiring a car in Washington DC
