Corfu is one of the most popular Greek Islands for UK holidaymakers, offering crystal clear waters, idyllic beaches and a fascinating history. How to get there
A flight to Corfu from the UK takes about 3 hours 30 minutes so it's one of the further flung destinations in the Mediterranean. Of course that doesn't stop many thousands of visitors making the journey every year from airports in the UK. Flights to Corfu operate from several regional airports as well as the main London hubs. Manchester, Glasgow, Belfast, Bristol, Birmingham and Newcastle all operate a variety of flights. Corfu is served by most of the major tour operators because of its popularity as a package holiday destination meaning that holidaymakers from the UK have a choice of scheduled flights, charter flights and low cost flights to the island. When to go
Corfu has a typical southern Mediterranean climate with very hot summers and mild winters. This combined with the traditional summer holiday price peak means that finding cheap flights to Corfu in July or August is difficult. For the ideal combination of great weather and a cheap flight to Corfu try the periods either side of summer - May, June, September and October are excellent opportunities for great value flights. Corfu flights are cheapest in winter, however, the weather can be occasionally cold and damp. You may want to think twice before grabbing that super cheap flight to Corfu in December, there's a good chance it may not be the holiday you're after. What to do
Corfu was one of the first of the Greek Islands to feel the spread of the tourist bug and as a result it does bear some of the scars of that early rush to develop. However, there's a reason why Corfu felt the early rush - it's simply beautiful. Even now there are plenty of places to escape the overcrowded tourist centres. If you're looking for something other than wall to wall partying Brits, then avoid Gouvia, Ypsos, Sidari and Kavos. Better to head for the more civilised resorts of Kalami, Agnos and Agios Stefanos. While the main passtime is lying on idyllic beaches, if you tire of this then Corfu Town should be the first place on your agenda. It is one of the most beautiful in Greece, having been founded by the Venetians in the 14th century with some considerable style. There is also some decent shopping there along with plenty of cool cafes and bars. Is Corfu the place for you? If it is then make sure that you don't pay any more than you have to for your Corfu flights.
