Sydney is arguably the most popular destination for backpackers from the UK and is the arrival point for the majority of travellers heading to Australia.

Flight time to Sydney is approximately 22 hours but you have to break your journey somewhere, most popular places to do this are Hong Kong, Bangkok and Singapore. Where you stop will depend on which airline you fly with and you may have the option of a brief stop just to re-fuel, a few hours stop to stretch your legs and have a quick look around or a night or 2 to get a taste of the city you are in.

Sydney’s Kingsford Smith Airport is only about 10km from the city centre. There is a rail service known as, ‘Airport link’ which will cost about $14. A cheaper way is to take a bus to Rockdale and take the train from there for about $4. A taxi into the city will cost around $30.
