dealchecker's guide to Lanzarote

While there are hundreds of destinations around the world that could soak up the growing demand for winter sun flights, Lanzarote is undoubtedly one of the most convenient from the UK. Situated in the Atlantic just off the coast of northwest Africa and, from the UK just a four hour flight, Lanzarote has a sub tropical climate that makes it the perfect destination year round for the UK holidaymaker.

The island is the most easterly of the Canaries and is generally accepted to be one of the less brash of the bunch. This is due in large part to the strict planning and building controls that are in place which have stopped excessive development. There is a lively nightlife scene in Puerto del Carmen but aside from this the island has a more natural Spanish feel to it.

That's certainly the case from a cultural point of view, however, anyone peering from the window during their flight to Lanzarote would be greeted with a sight more reminiscent of a lunar landscape than anything Spanish. Lanzarote, like the rest of the Canaries is the product of a mass of volcanic activity and it's predominantly black rock surface is strewn with the remains of explosions and lava flows, while underneath lies a stunning array of sub-terrain caves and landforms.

Lanzarote beaches
Despite its volcanic origins Lanzarote does not lack in the beach department, in fact, far from it. The island is dotted with beautiful white and golden sandy beaches to rival any in the world. Papagayo in the south near Playa Blanca in particular is renowned as one of the finest, although beware if you are a sensitive soul, it's very popular with naturists. If you are after a beach break then it is worth considering a holiday package as it can be easier to organise and is often cheaper.

Getting to Lanzarote
Cheap Lanzarote flights are becoming more and more common as the price of scheduled services from carriers like British Airways and Iberia has dropped to compete with low cost and charter options. Flights to Lanzarote depart from most regional airports in the UK although the cheapest flights are most likely to depart from one of London's four airports or perhaps Manchester. Lanzarote airport offers a range of car hire options which can be a good option if you want to do a lot of sightseeing.

So, when you're ready to book your next Lanzarote flight let dealchecker do the hard work for you and once that?s sorted why not search for a cheap hotel in Lanzarote - there is a massive range to choose from.
