With plenty of attractions within driving distance of the town, Apia, the capital of Samoa, is a wonderful place from which to explore the island of Upolu. The town offers a wonderful insight into Samoan culture, history and traditions and with cheap Apia flights, this Pacific Island town should not be missed.
Flights To Apia
The majority of flights to Apia land at Faleolo Airport, approximately 20 miles from Apia. Several hotels operate shuttle buses from the airport for guests, although these should be arranged in advance of arrival. Apia flights from American Samoa arrive at Fagali'i Airport, which is also close to the town.
Getting Around Apia
From your hotel Apia is easily accessible on foot, although on a hot and humid Samoan day this may not always be a comfortable experience. Taxis are cheap and plentiful and buses operate from downtown Apia. With many of the main sights and beaches outside the town avail yourself of cheap Apia car hire to fully explore the island.
What To See In Apia
Robert Louis Stevenson spent the final years of his life in Vailima, just 5km south of Apia, and his house is now a well kept museum. His grave, at the top of Mt Vaea, overlooking the house, is best visited in the early morning. The trek to the grave is a great walk and offers excellent views of the Pacific. Aggie Grey's 'Fia Fia' provides traditional Samoan singing, drumming and dancing.
