Car hire in Brussels is widely available but driving is not for the fainthearted! Brussels is divided into two main parts. The Lower Town is made up of the old madieval centres and it is very easy to get around on foot. Sights include the Grand Place which has the country's finest guildhalls and best cafes. Surrounding this are lovely cobbled streets that date back to the 12th century and are great to wander around. The Upper Town was home to the French elite and has a completely different feel. It is here that you will find the the Belgian Parliament and the grand boulevards that lead to the shopping districts. To the north in the Domaine Royale, home to the Belgian Royal Family and nearby is the district that has become home to the European Union and the are is dominated by modern steel and glass buildings.
