Romanian Athenaeum
posted by kcass The Athenaeum is simply the finest building in eastern Europe. It was built in the 19th century to house the philarmonic orchestra. If you can see a concert here, you must. The Acoustics are reputedly incredible. |
A patchwork of former influences makes Bucharest a delightful mixture of visual delights and it is one of the most intriguing and overlooked capitals in Europe. You need not be an intrepid traveller to book cheap flights to Bucharest as it is as hospitable as any other major city but a frontiersman spirit might be an advantage. It will take the best part of three and a half hours for Bucharest flights from the UK to touch down on Romanian soil. Bucharest flights can be destined for either Henri Coanda International Airport or Aurel Vlaicu International Airport. The former is ten miles from the city and the latter is five miles, with the larger and more frequently serviced sitting further away, so transfer times vary but neither is difficult to get to and from after a flight to Bucharest. If you use car hire from Bucharest Airport you may be able to avoid some of the less scrupulous taxi operators. Public transport is also available, with an underground metro system complimented by trams and buses, which makes travelling in the city centre easy and returning to one of the cheap Bucharest hotels a doddle. If you want to learn about life in Bucharest and rural Romania then the wealth of museums in the city will prove most instructive. The imposing Palace of Parliament is a testament to modern, democratic Romania and the city also has some pristine parks if you fancy a spot of greenery in amongst the noise and bustle.Flights To Bucharest
