Frankfurt is often seen merely as a transport hub or business and industrial centre. Yet its clout as a financial centre has given it the most amazing skyline, one that rivals Manhattan. At the same time it is one of the most multi-cultural cities in Germany and up a quarter of its inhabitants has foreign roots, adding to its distinctiveness. A major centre for conventions and shows, the city also spends huge sums of money on supporting its arts scene making it well worth a visit. You'll soon discover that it has just as much to offer as Berlin or Munich. How to get to Frankfurt When to go to Frankfurt What to do in Frankfurt If you really like Frankfurt then you may even be tempted to book some cheap car hire in Frankfurt and take to the road to see more of Germany.
Being such a major business centre means that many airlines operate direct flights to Frankfurt from London, Manchester, Edinburgh, Belfast and Dublin. A flight to Frankfurt takes one and half hours and British Airways, BMI and Lufthanza all operate scheduled flights to Frankfurt. As is usually the case scheduled operators don't always offer the best opportunities for finding a cheap flight. Frankfurt is also on the network of budget carriers like Ryanair, all of whom represent good options for getting cheap flights to Frankfurt.
The main convention season runs from March through to May and also in September and October. With so many visitors at these times it isn't all that easy to find bargains on Frankfurt flights unless you have booked well in advance. This is unfortunate as it also coincides with the best weather! November, December, January and February are the coldest months and and the tempreature drops below freezing on a regular basis. However this makes it one of the best times to find cheap flights to Frankfurt with the added bonus that there will be no tourists around so you'll get the best deals on hotels in Frankfurt too! However there is a Christmas market held in December and the number of visitors rises, albeit for a short time. June, July and August are the hottest months but this means that the cafes, pavements and parks spring to life as everybody heads outdoors.
When you've bagged your self a cheap flight to Frankfurt then you should head to one of the cities museums to take in a little culture and also grab a good meal as their restaurants and cafes are usually excellent. The skyline is best viewed from the river and there lots of boat trips to choose from allowing you to get some great snaps for the photo album! Across the river in Sachsenhausen you will find small cobbled streets and numerous cafes and beer houses which makes it a great location to wander around day or night. The best views come from the Main Tower, Frankfurt's tallest building which has a cocktail bar on the 53rd floor. The views are amazing and if the weather is right a perfect place to watch the sun go down. Don't forget to check out what's on in the many theatres and galleries and all in all you're bound to have a surprisingly good time.
