Gran Canaria flights take about 4 hours from London, or between 4 and 5 hours from Manchester, Birmingham, Belfast or Glasgow. It is very well served from the UK by scheduled flights including British Airways, charters from Monarch, Thomas Cook and XL and low cost airlines such as Easyjet. Once you're there, make sure you find cheap car hire in Gran Canaria. It's cheaper than the cost of transfers and lets you explore the whole island.
The Canary Islands are one of the very rare destinations with year round sunshine but accessible from the UK via short haul cheap flights. Gran Canaria is a very pleasant 20 to 23 degrees in the winter months and rises to a wind cooled 27 to 30 degrees in the summer making it comfortable year round. December, January and February are the cheapest months to travel with a number of cheap flights to Canaria available if you shop around and can be flexible on dates. The capital city, Las Palmas, has a fantastic historical centre characterised by Spanish style colonial architecture. Inland the island offers a rugged highland landscape including a dormant volcano with a 200m deep crater.
