Getting to Lima

Lima flights come directly from New York City, Miami and Los Angeles amongst other major destinations in the U.S.A, taking 9, 5 and 6 hours respectively to arrive. Direct flights from Madrid in Spain are also available, taking approximately 12 hours, with connecting flights available from London and Frankfurt via Madrid taking roughly 15 and 14 hours respectively. Cheap flights to Lima are available if you book well in advance and choose the cheapest airline.

Plaza Mayor

This is the centre of the historical area of Lima and contains the Cathedral, the Archbishop's palace and other important buildings, as well as restaurants and many shops. Plaza Mayor is where Francisso Pizarro founded Lima on the 18th January 1535.

Parque de las Leyendas

The Parque de las Leyendas is a zoo that is popular with both locals and visitors to Lima. It enables them to have a close look at some of the native wildlife to Peru, which includes llamas, condors and birds from the Amazonian area.

Iglesia and Museo de San Francisco

The San Francisco monastery is famous for containing the bodies of thousands of people. The museum and library within the monastery are also worth a visit, with the library containing thousands of documents with some dating back hundreds of years.

Palacio de Torre Tagle

The stunning balconies on one of the most treasured buildings in Peru's capital are well known. The building was constructed at the end of the 17th century and is now home to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
