A flight to Lima can take anywhere from 12 to 16 hours depending on which airline you choose and which route they take. You may be required to switch flights in Amsterdam, Miami or elsewhere in order to take Lima flights to their final destination of Jorge Chavez International Airport which is seven miles from Lima's centre. This means a transfer to one of the cheap Lima hotels will take 20 to 30 minutes on a good day.
After Lima flights many tourists choose to book car hire from Lima Airport although if you plan to get around the city by other means you will find that this is also relatively good value. There are minibus services, known as micros locally, which you can jump on and off at any point and will cost very little to use. Taxis are available although price negotiation prior to departure is essential.
Lima has many architectural delights to take in with modern tower blocks jostling for position with places of worship which were erected four centuries ago.
