dealchecker's guide to Luxor

For many people, Luxor is one large open air museum. There is history everywhere you look and Luxur has been visited since before the Roman Empire. There are lots to see and do, so it is worth planning your visit before you go to ensure you see the main attractions. In Luxor itself, there is Luxor Temple. Luxor Museum and the Mummification Museum, however, to the north of the city is the Karnak Temple. Built over a period of 1500 years, the temple is a journey through ancient Egyptian history

West Bank

On the opposite side of the River Nile is the West Bank which houses the burial place of the Pharoahs. There are over sixty tombs to see, although your ticket is likely to allow you only three or four at a time. It is worth hiring a local guide to make the most of your experience. Your guide should also include a trip to the Valley of the Kings and the Colossi of Memnon. You can ride over the area in a hot air balloon, which is a fascinating experience. Shopping is based on the history to the area and there are many alabaster and souvenir shops, however, you will find jewellery shops and bazaars.
