I have always believed that the best way to learn and appreciate a new culture is to learn about their art and history, that is why when I was in Marrakesh, I was happy to visit the Museum of Moroccan Arts. While there did I did not only see contemporary art, but also daggers and other crafts creat ... more

 Koutoubia Mosque

The red stone mosque was first built in 1147, but demolished and rebuilt in 1199 because it was not correctly aligned with Mecca. The landmark minaret is 221ft (69m) high and consists of six chambers one atop the other, ascended by a ramp through which the muezzin ascends to the top balcony. The Kou ... more

 Musee de Marrakech

This museum features unique items from the rich culture of Morocco as well as more contemporary exhibits. I especially love the library because they have hard to find and rare art books, and some in English. The museum takes a good couple of hours if you want to see everything, so plan ahead.

dealchecker's guide to Marrakesh

One of the most popular short break destinations, Marrakesh is an exotic destination that is only a short flight from the UK. The city is nearly a thousand years old and is distinguished by its almost red, earth coloured buildings, endless souks all set the fabulous backdrop of the snow topped Atlas mountains. Recent times have seen an abundance of intimate riad hotels spring up in the Medina offering the visitor an unusual but delightful few days of escape.

How to get there
There are a number of airlines that operate direct flights to Marrakesh from London and other UK airports such as Stansted and Manchester and new routes are opening up all the time. It's fairly easy these days to find indirect options from places like Belfast, Newcastle and Edinburgh. Flights to Marrakesh take around two and half hours. British Airways and Royal Air Maroc provide scheduled flights to Marrakesh, however these may not always offer the best options for finding a cheap flight. Marrakesh is also served by budget carriers like Easyjet and Ryanair who offer low cost services to cater for the burgeoning short break demand and these are likely to be your best bet for getting cheap flights to Marrakesh.

When to go
Its growing popularity as a short break destination means that you can find bargains on Marrakesh flights throughout the year. The winter months around November, December and January feature the coolest tempratures and sometimes it can get pretty cold! However this is probably the best time to go hunting for cheap flights to Marrakesh. The summer months around June, July and August are extremely hot as the city sits on a plain and again the heat means that you're likely to find a cheap flight to Marrakesh during these months. The best months are in spring and autumn making it a bit harder to find bargains on Marrakesh flights then.

The situation is the same for hotels but with our help you should be able to find Marrakesh hotels at a reasonable rate whatever time of year it is.

What to do
When you got your hands on a cheap flight to Marrakesh there are some great attractions to visit. Djemaa El Fna is top of the list and this huge square really comes to life at night when it fills up with food stalls, belly dancers, acrobats and all manner of entertainers. The square is surrounded by a number of restaurants some of which have balconies from which you watch the show unfold. The Saadian Tombs are located in the Kasbah south of the Medina and make a great excursion as do the many parks that are located on the outskirts of the city. They make an excellent place to unwind after a days shopping in the seemingly endless souks. The souks themselves are a real treat and wandering through the narrow alleys you will find all manner of leather goods, carpets, lamps, furniture and pottery to name a few. If you are buying bulky items some traders can arrange to have them shipped back for you otherwise you'll need to pack light!

If you're feeling adventurous you could always look at the rates for Marrakesh car hire and explore the desert landscape of Morocco at your own pace.
