All cheap flights to Osaka land at Kansai International Airport and since this is built onto an artificial island in the bay you will have an intriguing onward journey over the Sky Gate Bridge either by rail or road. You can find car hire from Osaka Airport if you want to travel by car on your trip but it is also very easy to find your way around on the subway system, provided you are willing to work with Japanese symbols for station names.
