Vitosha
posted by gunk Vitosha is a mountain just outside Sofia. It dominates the skyline in town and has a great view over the city. I hear that there's some good skiing here in winter, but when I was there in the summer it just made a great spot to go for a hike and eat at one of the many restaurants. Taxi Fares
posted by Suet Rip off at airport. April 2007 the current rate for a taxi means that to your hotel should cost an average of 5-8 lev. I thought 30 was reasonable until I ordered a taxi the follwing evening to discover they are so cheap. They are not cheap however in Sunny Beach at four times the price. |
Bulgaria's capital does not get the recognition it deserves as travellers head instead for the coast or to the mountains. The good news is that this means cheap Sofia hotels are easy to find, along with cheap flights to Sofia. These will help introduce you to a charming, understated city which has flashes of the old world mixed in with the latest fashions. Sofia flights from a UK airport will take around two and a half hours, making a flight to Sofia very manageable indeed. Sofia Airport is the main hub for air travel in the region and it is just 3.1 miles from the centre of the city, cutting transfer times to a minimum once you have disembarked from Sofia flights. You can pick up car rental in Sofia from the airport or seek out local firms from within the city. If you want to stay on foot the good news is that most of the sights can be seen on foot due to the compact layout of Sofia. A metro system is available for longer journeys, as are trams and buses, with taxis providing a a good cheap alternative if you prefer a bit of autonomy. If you have seen all of the churches, mosques and monuments in the city you can hike up Mount Vitosha, a popular pursuit. There is also an archaeological museum in the city as well as a wealth of nightclubs, bars and cafes to keep you entertained in the evening.Flights To Sofia
