Long regarded as the place to go for a cheap weekend away, you'll be filled to the brim with delicious food and drink without breaking the bank!

Flights To Tallinn

Direct flights to Tallinn from the UK take between two to three hours and land at Lenart Meri Tallinn Airport. The airport is only a 10-minute drive from the city centre, so reaching a cheap Tallinn hotel after you land should be simple. Choose from a taxi or bus to travel between the city and airport.

A number of airlines run flights to Tallinn, including Ryanair, easyJet and Brussels Airlines. Flights depart from UK airports such as Manchester, London Gatwick, Birmingham, Bristol and Newcastle.

Getting Around Tallinn

The best way to get around Tallinn is to use the bus system; tickets are affordable, the routes are far-reaching and services run from early morning to late night. There are also a number of trams that can likewise be utilised. If you want a taxi, try and call for one instead of hailing a cab off the street, as you are more likely to be over-charged. Ask your hotel receptionist or concierge to call one for you or at least provide the phone number of a reputable company.

It is also important to note that the Old Town can be explored on foot and is in fact, much more pleasurable than travelling in a car, as you really get to experience the medieval atmosphere evoked by the cobbled street and dated buildings.

What To See In Tallinn

The Old Town within Tallinn is brimming with sights, from the tight-knit streets of its well-preserved medieval areas to the Town Hall Square of Raekoja Plats, which has many places to grab a coffee and watch the world go by. The Town Hall itself is a Gothic construction dating from the 15th century and Old Thomas, a weather vane in the shape of the city's guardian sits atop it.

Another sight to be seen is the Toompea Castle, home to the Parliament of Estonia and many great viewing points to see the entire Old Town. Also make a point of visiting the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral; it may be a little younger than many of the nearby buildings, but with its domes and ornate embellishments, it has quickly become a must-see monument for visitors.

After seeing so many places in the Old Town, you will no doubt want to learn more about the city's history and past. The Kiek-in-de-Kok is a cannon tower that now houses a museum which outlines Tallinn's origins and growth, while the medieval Linnamuuseum also looks at Tallinn's development over the years. For the artists, visit the modern Kumu museum, which is one of the largest in North Europe and showcases Estonian art from the 18th century onwards.

dealchecker Tip: For a very medieval experience, visit the Kolmas Draakon pub, located in the main Town Hall Square. If you are visiting during peak season, just look for the large line of people out the door! Furnished with hanging ladles and saucepans, this quaint pub will take you back in time, while its variety of freshly-made pastries (choose from elk, spinach, apple, boar and mushroom) will have you salivating!
