What To See In Tallinn

The Old Town within Tallinn is brimming with sights, from the tight-knit streets of its well-preserved medieval areas to the Town Hall Square of Raekoja Plats, which has many places to grab a coffee and watch the world go by. The Town Hall itself is a Gothic construction dating from the 15th century and Old Thomas, a weather vane in the shape of the city's guardian sits atop it.

Another sight to be seen is the Toompea Castle, home to the Parliament of Estonia and many great viewing points to see the entire Old Town. Also make a point of visiting the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral; it may be a little younger than many of the nearby buildings, but with its domes and ornate embellishments, it has quickly become a must-see monument for visitors.

After seeing so many places in the Old Town, you will no doubt want to learn more about the city's history and past. The Kiek-in-de-Kok is a cannon tower that now houses a museum which outlines Tallinn's origins and growth, while the medieval Linnamuuseum also looks at Tallinn's development over the years. For the artists, visit the modern Kumu museum, which is one of the largest in North Europe and showcases Estonian art from the 18th century onwards.
