There are no direct air services between Glasgow and Australia, but Qantas and Emirates run indirect flights to Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney, Australia's busiest airport. Travelling from Scotland to Oz will usually take at least 24 hours and involve at least two plane changes. However, the Qantas service to Perth via Dubai involves only one stop, and takes just 20 hours, which could be the best way to keep your journey simple.
If you want to keep plane changes to a minimum, you should consider travelling to Heathrow by land and taking the Qantas or British Airways service to Sydney International. At only 22 hours, this is one of the shorter flights, and although it does stop off en-route to refuel, you do not need to change planes at any point. Alternatively, there are indirect services with British Airways from Edinburgh and Inverness.
The earlier you book your flights to Australia, the better, as prices can increase dramatically over time. Flights to Sydney are often cheaper than to other destinations in Australia, and once in Sydney you'll have easy access to the rest of Australia, as there are plenty of cheap domestic flights that fly all over the country.
You may also be able to save money on your journey by researching flights to Kuala Lumpur from the UK. Travelling on to Australia from KL can be kinder to your wallet, but don't expect a short journey.
