While you can't fly directly between Glasgow and Austria, there are several indirect services. Lufthansa offer indirect flights to Linz, Graz and Vienna, Austria's busiest airport. The Vienna services generally take just over four hours and involve changing at Amsterdam, London Heathrow or Dusseldorf. Flying to Austria's largest city, even if it is not your final destination, will put you in a great position to explore the country from, as Austrian Airlines run numerous domestic services out of Vienna, including Salzburg, Klagenfurt and Graz.
There are direct UK flights to Austria, which run from Manchester and a variety of London airports. Ryanair fly to Linz and Salzburg from Stansted, while you can travel straight to Vienna from Heathrow with either British Airways or Austrian Airlines. These direct flights usually take around two hours, so if you are keen to keep changes to a minimum, it may be worth travelling to London by land before travelling on to Austria.
The easiest ways to avoid paying too much for your flights to Austria are to book as early as possible and to be flexible regarding where you travel to and from. There are direct UK air services with low cost airlines such as Ryanair, which could work out quicker and much cheaper than indirect flights via mainland Europe.
