Sandwiched between Ghana to the west and Benin to the east, Togo is a narrow country in West Africa. Its official name is the Togolese Republic and the official language is French, although many African languages are widely spoken too.
Togo flights arrive in the capital city of Lome. For a direct flight to Togo you will need to travel from Paris as direct Togo flights are currently not available from the UK. For cheap flights to Togo from the UK it's often advised that you fly to Accra in neighbouring Ghana. Flights to Lome from Paris take around six hours and a flight from London to Accra takes around seven hours. Buses and transport are readily available for onward travel to Togo and this will take up to about three hours, depending on your final destination.
Public transport within Togo is few and far between. For local journeys you could try a taxi or motorbike cab but agree a price before you start your journey. Of course, one of the best ways to get around is to hire a car. If you are interested in car rental Lome has most of the High Street names represented.
The majority of visitors base themselves in Lome where the subtropical climate and 56km of beach, watersports, beach bars and parties offer plenty of distraction. You will find a good selection of hotels in Lome too. Try out the markets with great local produce, but don't forget to haggle!
