Saving Money in Edinburgh

You don't need to a lot to have a great day or night out in the Scottish capital. Edinburgh is famous the world over for its massive summer arts festival, which completely takes over the city during August. There are street performers, free shows and film screening and countless other amazing free things to see and do during the Edinburgh Festival, so if you manage to get some accommodation sorted early, then you can have a great, cheap festival experience. Even when the festival isn't on, Edinburgh is one of the best locations for a cheap holiday in the UK, with the National Museum of Scotland, The Writers' Museum and numerous parks and gardens around the city free to enter.

Scottish National Gallery of Modern ArtI like the way that they have all the greats but still a large collection of modern Scottish art too. You can make a day of it here as the sculpture garden is great and leads to a walk down to the Water of Leith.

Brass Rubbing CentreI took my two boys to Edinburgh for a long weekend and this was the most popular activity. Wonderful atmospheric location and a great thing for all ages to get stuck into.

Malleney GardenSuch a lovely (petite) garden! The old fashioned roses were my favourite but we had a lovely stroll in the woodland area too. Such a peaceful spot, we were rested and rejuvenated after our excursion here.

Edinburgh DungeonWith two youngish boys this is just the sort of thing that they love, all scare tactics and upping thefear ante. Actually it was a fun and interesting place, and I was even a little frightened at times!!
