A jewel in the Indian Ocean, Madagascar is the definition of a tropical island paradise. With gorgeous beaches, fascinating local culture and some of the most unique wildlife on earth, why not see for yourself just how incredible it is?
The time to avoid travelling to Madagascar is between January and March, as the weather can be so severe that many of the roads often become so flooded that whole areas of the island become inaccessible. There's also a high risk of cyclones in the east and north-east of the island during this period. You do need to be wary between July and September, which also features heavy rainfall. The ideal time to go is around October and November, as you will miss the worst of the extreme weather and the temperatures still reach up to 30 degrees. This is also the best time to book a hotel in Madagascar as you will miss the tourist rushes of July, August, December and May.
There are no direct UK flights to Madagascar, but the prices vary depending on which part of the country you are flying to. The cheapest services by far are direct to the capital, Antananarivo, but which is several miles inland. The cheapest option may, therefore, be to fly to the capital and, if you are travelling to the coast, either use public transport or rent a car. If you are renting a car, however, make sure to book it well ahead of time to avoid paying over the odds.
