A short haul at two and a half hours flying time, you will arrive refreshed and ready to get mobile with car hire from Madrid Airport. Think about seasons as well as places. October is great for hotel deals, but you can still get some bargains in the summer. Cheap holidays to Madrid will involve staying at mid to low priced hotels, hostels (small, family run hotels) or self catering apartments, which can be the most economical choice if you are travelling with friends or family. There are also "apart-hotels" which combine the ease of an apartment with the services of a hotel. There are a lot of great deals in central locations, so think about the sites you most want to see before you book. Many people go on holidays in Madrid for the art museums alone, including the Museo del Prado; the Reina Sofia, home to Picasso's Guernica; and the Thyssen-Bornemisza, a wonderful private collection.
