Nerja is a pretty resort on the Costa del Sol, popular thanks to its lack of high-rise hotel blocks which gives the town an unspoilt and traditional Spanish air. Plus with the backdrop of the Sierra Almijara Mountains you can be sure of picturesque Nerja holiday snaps! The Old Town feels particularly Spanish and is often quite quiet thanks to it being a short way uphill from the beaches, so you can easily grab some culture on holiday in Nerja!
Although it has grown in popularity over the past few years, you will find that a holiday in Nerja is still a great bet for a Costa del Sol break without the heaving crowds, and you can expect a more cosmopolitan mix of visitors too. Nerja holidays are popular with Spanish holidaymakers as well as other European countries, so it won't all be about English breakfasts and Sky Sports!
It's a busy enough resort that there are a range of cheap holiday deals in Nerja, so get booking and enjoy a break here in 2013 or 2014!
All holidays to Nerja start off with a flight to the nearest airport, which is Malaga. The best way to arrange onward travel is to book it alongside your package holiday to Nerja, with most holiday companies offering it included or as an added extra - this is a great way to get value for money as well as taking away the hassle of making the trip yourself.
There is also a shuttle bus you can use which departs from Malaga Station, which you can get to from the airport on a local bus service. This is a reasonably frequent service in peak times, although does not run 24 hours, so check the online timetable if you want to use this method. Hiring a car can be quite useful on your holiday to Nerja and you will find the roads to be well sign posted when it comes to making the transfer to your hotel. It's a great way to get around if you want to explore the local area, but if you're looking to just lie in the sunshine all day you might find it to be more of a hassle or unwanted cost. The final alternative is to get a taxi, and although you will certainly pay a reasonably large sum you will get a door to door service without any hassle. It's definitely worth chatting to fellow passengers on the flight to see if anyone wants to share!

The Nerja Caves are a recent discovery with plenty of archaeological interest and boast paintings dating back thousands of years.
The beautiful beaches provide the focal point for most days on holiday here, with sand and watersports aplenty! Here's our quick rundown of the beaches in Nerja:
East Nerja - the beaches here are more pebbly, with Burriana Beach and its far end of Carabeillo Beach the sandiest. Other options are Calahonda Beach and Carabeo Beach. These tend to be quieter than the sandy beaches so if you can't handle the crowds in peak season head here for some respite.
West Nerja - Del Salon Beach is the most central, which makes it the most popular! Torrecilla Beach is where you will find the resort hotels, as well as a large promenade and generally a great atmosphere conducive to relaxing on a holiday in Nerja. Further on you will find El Playazo which is the largest and most secluded beach in the resort, and as such our pick for a day sunbathing!
