St. John's is the capital city of Newfoundland, and as such, the most eastern point in North America. The city has a big Irish influence, referring to architecture and names, and of course several irish pubs with the typical irish atmosphere.
This beautiful town is a nice place to discover. People are extremely friendly and they'll gladly offer you to have dinner at their place if they feel that they can talk to you.
You'll find quite a lot of B&B which are, most of the time, very nice and comfortable and the Hotel Newfoundland (Fairmont) will accommodate business men with a beautiful view of the harbour.
Have a walk along the streets, you'll discover very nice shops and restaurants. George Street for example, is very lively at night with many pubs and bars. Don't forget to visit Battery, a very peculiar part of the city near the harbour and enjoy your stay in a small but charming town.
