dealchecker’s guide to Amalfi

Located on the stunning Italian Amalfi coast, the town of Amalfi itself is an attractive mix of traditional squares and streets, many of which are pedestrianised. As well as a great beach, there are plenty of other things to see and do here. Visit the town's magnificent 13th century Cathedral and the neighbouring Cloister of Paradise which contains some fascinating mosaics and 120 Arabic columns. Take a look at the Museo della Carta, the oldest working paper mill in Europe. You'll find plenty of cheap hotels in Amalfi, as well as others catering to those with a larger budget.

Choosing an Amalfi Hotel

Whatever your budget and accommodation requirements, you'll find a wide selection of Amalfi hotels using our search facility. The size of the town means there is a plentiful supply of hotel rooms and the prices tend to be lower than elsewhere in this coastal region. However all accommodation, whether it's more expensive or cheap hotels in Amalfi does tend to get booked up in the peak season between July and September.

When to visit Amalfi

It's probably best to avoid the middle two weeks of August when the majority of Italians take their annual holiday and the beach becomes very crowded indeed. Fortunately the summer temperatures rarely exceed 31 C and Amalfi is popular in winter too, as it usually stays above 10 C. There are plenty of cheap holidays in Amalfi especially if you're prepared to visit off-season. If you're flying you are most likely to arrive at Naples airport which is the closest and from here it's easy to book Amalfi car hire.
