Amman is both the ancient and new capital of Jordan, situated in the Middle East. It is the oldest constantly lived in city on the globe. It is a key business destination amongst international visitors. Amman is spread over a hilly area in the north west of Jordan, with distinct areas of the city being named after the hill on which they are situated. With the unique blend of desert, fertile valleys and the bustling ultra-modern heart of the city, Amman gives the visitor a whirlwind of sights and experiences.
If you've taken advantage of cheap flights to Amman you'll find the Queen Alia International Airport 30km south of the city centre. If you're picking up car hire from Amman Airport then you'll be pleased with the extensive highway system both around the city and to neighbouring areas, but do note this can be busy at peak times. There is an eclectic mix of hotels in Amman, with vast executive hotels, spa resorts and boutique hotels. But don't be put off there are a great range of cheap Amman hotels too that offer a taste of the wonderful local hospitality.
June to September sees an inviting Mediterranean climate with warm temperatures, low rainfall and cooling breezes. With such an extensive history it's not surprising that there are many museums and archaeological sites to explore, for example the Folklore Museum at the Roman amphitheatre or the Archaeological Museum at the Citadel. If you're staying in one of the cheap Amman hotels in the suburbs you'll be met with the tranquil sight of tree-lined streets and whitewashed houses.
