Athens the ancient capital of Attica was one of the greatest cities in classical times and its modern counterpart is just as amazing. The peak of the tourist season is usually in June and July which are normally the hottest months. With so many visitors it can be hard to find a cheap hotel. Alternatively Athens is a great location for exploring the mainland with organised tours to many delights like the Oracle at Delphi on offer.
