Viaduct Harbour
posted by rfranks We were sailing around NZ and we had to stop in Auckland for about a week and we absolutely loved it here. The days area calm and relaxing and the nights are quirky with plenty of entertainment. Pineharbour
posted by hbynum What a stunning spot, just a short ferry ride away from the bright city lights! The beach was amazing and I have to say that apart from lunch at the harbourside that was where I spent most of my time. Crystal Mountain
posted by lboyd A pretty strange place but once you put that to one side it's actually a lot of fun here. I came to see the amazing crystals which more than matched my expectations, but I also tried my hand at panning for crystals (got none) and went to the miniature farm! Llamas!! Antoinette Godkin Gallery
posted by jroby Marvellous gallery, simply marvellous, i've long been a fan of Godkin and here all her expertise in style and elegance have really come together with some amazing artists to create fresh and fun spaces. Auckland Museum
posted by bhouser Overlooking the harbour is a museum everyone visiting New Zealand should go to, I felt I knew the history adn therefore the culture so much better afterwards, and so much made more sense. Very intersting, particularly learning about the Maori history as I was totaly ignorant beforehand. |
Auckland is situated on a narrow isthmus, bounded by two harbours - the Waitemata and the Manukau - at the southern end of the Auckland Peninsula. Auckland is the main gateway to New Zealand and the centre of commerce and industry. With a population of about one million, it is New Zealand's largest urban area. Auckland offers something for everyone - great beaches, a beautiful harbour, fantastic shopping (head to Ponsonby Road for unique clothing, jewellery and furniture), and the nightlife and culture of a metropolitan city. Try the great resaurants in the regenerated Viaduct area, or for trendier hangouts venture to K'Road where some of the coolest bars and clubs in New Zealand exist next to massage parlours and bottle shops. Right on Auckland's doorstep is the magnificent Hauraki Gulf stretching in a great 250km sweep of coastline north and south of the city. Known as the City of Sails, Auckland was the home of the America's Cup, yachting's greatest trophy.
