The Cotswolds are a beautiful area in the centre of England. They cover 790 square miles of forests, river valleys, rolling hills known as wolds, and stone built villages. Many films needing traditional 'British' sets are filmed in the Cotswolds as the honey coloured limestone buildings make the perfect setting. Gloucester Cathedral has masqueraded as Hogwarts in the Harry Potter films, and Bridget Jones' Diary featured the village of Snowshill.
There are many hotels in Cotswolds offering all kinds of accommodation from cosy B&Bs to castle hotels along with plenty of cheap Cotswolds hotels. Coaching inns were plentiful across the Cotswolds during the coaching age and many of these still function as small hotels. As with most United Kingdom hotels, they offer a great range of facilities such as spas, guided tours and gourmet food.
The Cotswolds were designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in 1966 and the reason is obvious to any visitor. Renting a car is the best way to make the most of the area, so when you visit the Cotswolds car hire is a great idea. Despite their popularity, cheap Cotswolds hotels are also available year round, but especially outside of the main summer season. Autumn is a particularly beautiful time to visit the region, with amazing displays of colour across the countryside. Taking a walk across fields on a frosty winter's morning is a delightful start to any day, especially when followed with a traditional English breakfast.
