Darwin is the most northern capital city in Australia and it's a travellers' paradise - a melting pot of culture, entertainments, gorgeous scenery, cheap Darwin hotels and excellent food. Thousands take Darwin flights each year to escape and experience sunny life at its best and Australian hospitality. The city incorporates inhabitants from 56 countries and there's a large port and university population which ebbs along with the season. There are lots of lovely outdoor spaces, markets, festivals and public events in the city, along with natural attractions like the Litchfield, Kakadu, Tiwis and Arnhem Land just beyond the urban border.
The city is blessed with an abundance of cheap Darwin hotels thanks to the large numbers of backpackers that head through each year. For those seeking more luxurious hotels in Darwin however, there is everything from old-fashioned five star, bursting with sumptuous rooms, gorgeous design features, bars and excellent service, through to relaxing spa hotels, quirky boutiques and excellent family run guesthouses and comfortable B&B's.
Many take Darwin holidays in the dry season. Australia's tropics have just the two seasons - dry and wet. The dry season lasts from late April until September or October and brings with it warm days, clear skies and balmy nights. The wet season brings about hot and steamy conditions initially with incredible lightening storms and short, powerful rainfalls. Some still choose to visit at this time of year and just brave the weather - there's plenty of indoor attractions!
