Eau Claire is a small city (population 61,704 from 2000 census) located in northwest Wisconsin. The city's name (pronounced "O'Claire") comes from the French phase "Eaux Claires", meaning "Clear Waters" as the city is located at the confluence of the Eau Claire and Chippewa Rivers.
Eau Claire is the headquarters for Menards and Presto Industries, with other major employers in education, healthcare and technology.
Eau Claire is home to several universities and colleges, including the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire (UWEC), the private (Church of the Lutheran Confession Synod) Immanuel Lutheran College, and the Chippewa Valley Technical College (CVTC).
As a small college town, entertainment options are limited, but diverse enough to satisfy most visitors and residents. Some of the more unique destinations include 1) Carson Park - which includes Paul Bunyan Logging Camp, Chippewa Valley Museum, and Carson Park Baseball Stadium (where Hank Aaron got his start and the Eau Claire Express, a Northern League minor team, & Caveliers amateur team now play). 2) Water Street - strip of college bars and shops near UWEC, 3) shopping districts - Oakwood Mall area, re-developed downtown, etc, 4) Jacob Leinenkugel Brewing Company - small national brewery in nearby Chippewa Falls, 5) etc.
