Graz is Austria's second largest city and has a population of about 287,000, with a large proportion made up of students from its six universities. Many take holidays to Graz for its incredible ancient history and culture. The city is associated with great names such as Nikola Tesla, Johannes Kepler and Erwin Schrödinger amongst others and its roots trace right back to Roman times. It is also the birthplace of the famous actor and politician, Arnold Schwarzenegger!
The city's importance as a cultural and academic centre is reflected in the rich array of hotels on offer as you will find everything from stately, luxurious five star accommodation through to cheap Graz hotels and guest houses. There are spa hotels, family run B&Bs, quirky boutique hotels and good comfortable mid-priced accommodation depending on budget. For the best prices on a Graz hotel, it is worth booking online and well in advance, away from key visitor periods when the city gets very busy.
The city is glorious year round, although winter visitors will need to wrap up warm! There are fewer cheap Graz hotels available around the time of university graduation and the summer and Christmas holidays, as the city becomes very busy with travellers at this time. For visitors benefiting from the cheap Graz flights to take a weekend break, the castle is a popular tourist spot, as is the beautiful old town; a World Heritage site. See the quirky Glockenspiel, the mausoleum of Emperor Ferdinand II and the gorgeous clock tower.
