Hanover is an important city in north Germany and it has long been a cultural centre for the region. There are plenty of historical attractions, as well as Germany's first aquarium, and the second largest Oktoberfest in the country. You can use cheap Hanover car hire to get around from there, or just use the excellent public transport network. If you're after a hotel in Hanover closer to the centre think about staying in the Old Town to really up the atmosphere.

When to visit Hanover

Boasting mild summers and cool winters, there are good points to visiting all year round. Look out for summer festivals such as The Small Festival in the Big Garden and the International Fireworks Festival. Oktoberfest and the Christmas Market are also really popular and hotels in Hanover can all get booked up early for these events. Late spring is a lovely time to visit as it's a little quieter but the weather is getting warmer so you can enjoy some of the outside attractions like the Royal Gardens of Herrenhausen and Hanover Zoo.
